I don't think so. He didn't say he's not coming back, just that he's one with nature, which Pops was before anyway. And if the spontanously appearing blue whale and dolphins were anything to go by, this scene was probably not meant to be taken too seriously. Otherwise the guys are gonna have a hard time explaining why their wave machine just levelled half the city. Speaking of which, how cool was that ending? Just saying.
Believe me, I questioned it too, but thankfully I doubt that he's gone for good. It tells you how fantastic an episode is when it makes you that concerned about a character's fate, though. I've seen quite a few posts on Tumblr of people asking if Pops is gone. That ending pulled so many heartstrings, including my own.
Heh, I actually talked about this on a podcast just last night. No, they're definitely not getting rid of him. That would be a terrible idea. Pops is staying, Benson was simply just too emotional at the time.
If the creators of RS didn't bring Pops back, I'd be pretty surprised. He's been a part of the park gang since the beginning of the show, so I highly doubt he's gone for good. I have to say, I loved watching Benson get so emotional, though. That's something we don't really see from him, unless he has a concussion and wants some wings real bad. XD I have to agree with GonkhNation, I don't think the scene was supposed to be taken too seriously. Rather, I think it was just to entertain us and make us feel proud of Pops's passion for surfing. I thought Catching the Wave was a pretty good episode, and I hope we see more of Pops's awesome abilities in the future!
