"Rage Against the TV" is the eighth episode in Season 2 (and twentieth episode overall) of Regular Show. It first aired on February 14, 2011.
Synopsis
After the old TV breaks down, Mordecai and Rigby go looking for another TV to beat a seemingly impossible boss on a video game.
Plot
Mordecai and Rigby are playing a new side-scrolling beat 'em up game in which a heroic duo have to try and stop a villainous gang. After fighting past a tough enemy, they face the final boss: The Hammer. He is powerful enough to take off one of Mordecai and Rigby's lives with a single punch, and things look hopeless until the duo discover his weakness, which is being hit with furniture. Just as they're about to win, the TV goes black, and the picture only returns when Mordecai thumps the TV. Rigby tries beating the Hammer solo, but the game just gets even worse.
Realizing they need a new TV, they try to go to Skips for help, but he doesn't have a TV, and tells them to ask Pops; however, Pops doesn't have a TV either, but thinks an old-fashioned radio is a suitable replacement. They decline and decide to get help from Muscle Man and Hi Five Ghost, and by describing the Hammer, they convince them to help (but only so they can see them lose to the Hammer). Muscle Man then breaks the TV when he forgets to unplug it when picking it up, leaving just one hope: Benson. Benson won't let them use his TV either, seeing as the Hammer didn't have anything to do with work.
The group see a commercial for TV Store Warehouse, the advert saying they're literally giving away the TV's for FREE; however, they discover that the commercial was lying to them. Jimmy gives them a free TV, but it is in black and white. They can only plug in the console with Skips' help and by using parts of other machines. When they finally get it working, the TV causes a blackout through the whole city. The TV comes to life, sprouting a body: in the TV is the face of The Hammer.
The Hammer goes on a rampage, even killing Jimmy who had come because his boss fired him for giving Muscle Man the TV. Mordecai, despite receiving a black eye, eventually remembers The Hammer's one weakness: being hit with furniture. He tells everyone else to throw furniture at The Hammer. With The Hammer weakened and restrained, they then hit him with a chair and Mordecai and Rigby grab the controllers from his hands and defeat him on his head-screen. This causes the power to be restored throughout the city.
The group are celebrating their victory when Benson comes with his TV to watch his shows, but when he sees the house a wreck and everybody looking injured, he silently leaves and closes the door behind them, looking rather disturbed. When he leaves, everybody goes back to celebration mode and they all high five.

- The game, The Hammer, appears to be based on Double Dragon, a beat-em-up arcade and home console game.
- The title of the episode, Rage Against the TV is a possible reference to a band named Rage Against the Machine.
Errors
- Mordecai and Rigby get hit by The Hammer; they lose all health, but later on they lose only half of the health bar.
- Though in the video game, a punch from the hammer takes a full life, in real life everybody gets punched, and they all survive.
- The black and white TV changes to a color TV after they pin down The Hammer.
- When Mordecai asks for the cheapest flatscreen, Jimmy says that the cost is $1200. But in the Russian dub, the flatscreen is 6 times cheaper, costing $200.
- Before the blackout, Hi Five Ghost is on the left side of the couch, but after the house starts to glow, he is on the right side of the couch.
