Catherine Louise "Katey" Sutter[1][2] (née Sagal; formerly Beckmeier and White)[1][3][4] (born January 19, 1954)[5] is an actress and singer for Regular Show.[6] She is best known for portraying Peg Bundy on the sitcom Married... with Children, Cate Hennessy on 8 Simple Rules, and Leela on Futurama .[7] On Regular Show, she provided the voice of Mordecai's mother in the character's second appearance, "Maxin' and Relaxin'", replacing the previous voice actress, Jennifer Hale. She also voiced Aunt Maxine.
Early life[]
Catherine Louise Sagal was born on January 19, 1954 in Los Angeles, California, the daughter of Boris Sagal, who was a director and Ukrainian-American, and Sara Zwilling, a writer and producer.[1][8] Actor Norman Lear was her godparent, and she also had a step-mother named Marge Champion.[9] She began singing at the age of 5.[10] She grew up alongside her four siblings: Joe, an actor, David, a lawyer, and twins Jean and Liz, both actresses, in Brentwood, California.[1][8][9][11] She would later attend college at CalArts.[1] She appeared in the film The Dream Makers, which her father directed.[9] Sagal lost both of her parents by the time she was 27; her mother died of heart disease in 1975 and her father died in 1981 on the set of directing the film World War III after moving toward a helicopter blade.[8][11][12]

Early music career[]
She became a member of the band The Group with No Name in 1975.[1] She would then serve as a "Harlette" for Bette Midler for three years, and served as a background singer for such musicians as Bob Dylan, Olivia Newton-John, Etta James and Tanya Tucker.[10]
Acting[]
After Sagal acted in numerous series, she landed the role of Peg Bundy on Married... with Children, which would become her most-known role. She would portray the character for 11 seasons.[10] She would earn three Golden Globe award nominations, as well as two American Comedy award nominations for her work on the show.[9]
Following Married, she later played the matriarch on the sitcom 8 Simple Rules.., and has also voice acted, providing the voice of Turanga Leela on Futurama and its films, as well as voicing Spinelli's mother Flo in Recess, Duckman's mother in Duckman and a policewoman in Higglytown Heroes.[13] Sagal won her first Golden Globe award for acting in Sons of Anarchy and received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in September 2014.[14]

Sagal returned to music with her debut album, Well, in 1994.[10] She would release another album, Room, in 2004.[10]

Personal life[]
Sagal has been married three times. She married her first husband, Freddie Beckmeier, a musician, in 1978; the marriage would last three years.[3][15] She later dated Jack White, also a musician, and Sagal eventually became pregnant with his child, a girl, in 1991; she suffered a miscarriage eight months into the pregnancy. The couple named the stillborn baby girl Ruby Jean.[4][12][16] Nonetheless, they would later marry in 1993 and have two children together: Sarah Grace (born 1994) and Jackson James (born 1996).[2][3][9] The couple later divorced in 2000;[15] White would also later die in 2024.[17] She then married her third husband, Kurt Sutter, a writer, on October 2, 2004; they would have a daughter, Esme Louise, in 2007, via a surrogate mother.[2][3] She and her husband reside in Los Angeles, California with their dogs, Mike and Lola.[10]
