Gene is the central antagonist of Regular Show. He is an egotistical vending machine and park manager of East Pines, a park that rivals against the Park. He is introduced in the show as Benson's rival but they later become acquainted.

History[]

S3E35

An image of the proximity between East Pines and Benson's park in "Prankless".

His first appears in Season 3, Episode 36 "Prankless." He is shown to have a history of prank wars with Benson's park. Why or how this history of prank wars is started is never explained. At one point he nearly destroyed the entire park until Muscle Man saved it with a giant, comically-large water balloon with "my mom" written on it. With Muscle Man "retiring" from pranking, Gene takes advantage of his absence and tries to destroy the Park by starting another huge prank war. However, Muscle Man is persuaded to return and stops Gene by pranking him back using mirrors in the East Pines tower. Muscle Man thus threatens Gene and his crew to clean up Benson's park, to which he begrudgingly accepts.

He appears in "The Christmas Special" and decides to help Benson and the park workers get to the lava pit in a mine on East Pines park to destroy the evil Christmas box. He also holds off Quillgin the best he can as they make their way through. However, Quillgin and his men had captured Gene in the watch tower and tied him up with rope. He then proceeded to turn Gene facedown, leaving him helplessly lying on the floor.

Benson's Ballerz vs. East Pines in "Dodge This".

He later makes a cameo in Dodge This, when he was defeated at dodgeball by Benson and the others. He's seen on the floor, waving his arms as he struggles to get up.

S5E24Would you please present the portrait

Gene's portrait cameo shown in "Bad Portrait".

Gene makes a cameo appearance in "Bad Portrait," being one of the many portraits hung on the wall for display in the Hall of Park Managers.

He appears again in "Thomas Fights Back". According to Benson, he and his goons steal the statue of Curtis Montgomery, their park's founder, every year. Benson and his crew attempt to infiltrate East Pines park to steal it back by using Rigby's idea of cheap alien costumes to make them surrender. Gene, however, quickly caught on it was Benson and his crew. He ordered his men to fire, but luckily, Thomas had intervened and fired a flare into the sky to scare off Gene and his men in order to save the gang. Later, Thomas infiltrates East Pines by pretending to be a new intern and getting information about where the statue is hidden and how to retrieve it back. He stays at East Pines for thirty days in order to complete his mission. Gene later finds out that Thomas removed the batteries of his walkie talkies, disconnected the gas pipes on the golf carts, and cut the emergency phone wires. Thomas also somehow recorded Gene's voice yelling "Let 'em through, ya blockhead!" on his phone to tell one of his men to open the gate, allowing Thomas and the crew to escape East Pines safely with the statue.

He appears in "Park Managers' Lunch" and seems to have a new perspective on Benson. Whether it be his acknowledgment of Benson and his crew or a change of heart, he invites Benson to lunch to talk as park managers. However, Benson's crew does not trust the situation and they stalk them to make sure Gene doesn't pull a prank on Benson. He puts Benson through initiation into the Park Manager's Lodge group but it looks to be set up like a kidnapping and sacrifice which makes Benson's crew rush in to save him. In the end, Benson and his crew prove to share the same values as the lodge, demonstrating the final test through demonstration of strong boss and employee relations. From this point, Gene doesn't appear as an antagonist but rather a an acquaintance to Benson. It is also funny to note that in this episode, after Benson calls Gene a "crazy person who's done nothing but prank [them]", Gene does not deny this fact, and instead says "Yeah? And!?", meaning that he sees himself as both a crazy person and a person who does nothing but prank others, in this instance Benson and his co-workers.

In "Men in Uniform," Benson demonstrates jealousy of Gene and his park for having so many visitors. Benson believes it is because Gene has his workers wear uniforms that his park is so successful, so leaves to create uniforms for his own employees.

In "The Parkie Awards," Gene is shown to be successful, winning 18 awards in a row and leaving Benson fuming with jealousy. Rigby steals his trophy that he had little regard for and gives it to Benson to have for the day to give him the recognition he deserves. However, going back to the City Theatre and attempting to give a small speech in front of his crew, Gene teases Benson by blaring the audio in the sound booth and interrupting his speech. Benson gives him his trophy back, apologizing about it, but Gene hadn't acknowledge the award had been missing. He takes it anyway, snapping his fingers to make a limousine crash into the building and climbs into it, his many other awards spilling out. Despite this, he tells Benson he'll see him at the next lodge meeting. This is proof that Gene is not intentionally mean to Benson, his ego just causes him to not regard Benson's feelings and what he might be going through.

S7E13

Gene's cameo in the episode "Benson's Pig".

Gene makes a small cameo in "Benson's Pig," attending some sort of meeting that Benson is also attending. It is likely some sort of park managers' meeting.

Genegrowth

Gene growing the Jade Phantom Peppers throughout his life in "Chili Cook Off".

In "Chili Cook Off," Gene announces that the lodge will be holding a Chili Cook Off. The winner of the cook off will get "the undivided respect of the entire lodge." Benson, who craves recognition amongst his colleagues, joins the cook off even when other members warned Benson of Gene's constant winning. During the elimination round, Benson gets Mordecai and Rigby to retrieve a sample of Gene's chili and discovers that Gene is using the Jade Phantom Pepper, a $2,000 pepper that is hard to grow. The rule of the cook off was to make the best-tasting chili with a budget of under $50. Benson tries to catch Gene in his lie by sneaking into his house, oblivious to the fact that his office is filtered with evidence that Gene is behind the Dome Experiment. As soon as Benson finds the stems of the Jade Phantom Pepper, Gene catches him and shows Benson that he has been growing his own Jade Phantom Peppers all his life in a greenhouse cabinet in his office, deeming them as "free" ingredients. In the greenhouse cabinet, he also shows Benson his pictures (shown to the left) of him growing them throughout his life. Despite this, Benson doesn't give up and makes a last effort to try adding hot wings as an ingredient to his chili. Even when Sean-Ben Pimento had found hot wing bone in Benson's chili, the taste had surpassed that of Gene's by adding a tang to it. Despite Benson winning, Gene was happy for Benson in the end, even putting a chair under him as the crowd carried him, saying "You're alright, Dunwoody!"

Gene and East Pines park shown in the Spark Initiative video in "Welcome to Space".

During the events of "Welcome to Space", he and the entire East Pines Park are launched into space to join the Spark Initiative but is not seen afterwards or anywhere in Season 8.

In "Regular Show: The Movie", in the "bad" timeline where Mordecai joins Mr. Ross and his evil forces, Gene is shown to fight alongside, and possibly leads, the Galactic Park Rangers.

Gene does not appear in the finale of the show and his present status is currently unknown.

Appearance[]

Gene from Thomas Fights Back

Gene shown with hair whenever he's getting all dressed up for an event.

Gene Face-Down on the Floor (Poor Guy)

Gene Shown with his hat off, no hair.

Gene is a green vending machine with a green fedora. He is occasionally shown with hair, but sometimes is shown without, highly implying his brown hair is wig. His face is placed on a large rectangular screen, likely where the vending machine sign would be displayed. He has a glass window on his chest showcasing snacks such as chips stored inside of him. Under the glass is the snack dispenser (or the "output compartment"). To the right, from the top down, is the bill accepter, the keypad, and the coin insert. Like Benson, he has an overcast brow and a triangular nose. He is a blocky, rectangular shape, so he is shown to struggle when on the floor a couple of times. But he, but the laws of animation, is also quite flexible and bendy as a vending machine.

Gene's silly ass

Gene flexible and shown to not be restricted to his rectangular, stiff form.

In "Regular Show: The Movie", Gene is shown in the "bad timeline" future where Mr. Ross seeks the destruction of the multiverse. He wears a Galactic Park Rangers uniform with a military beret cap, an eye patch over his right eye, and some stubble growing on his face.

Gene's Family[]

Gene's Family from The Christmas Special

Gene's family shown in "The Christmas Special".

Gene's family is shown in two episodes. In "The Christmas Special" Gene holds a picture that shows him standing with his young son and his wife. His wife is a red vending machine where his son is a green vending machine with no screen on his face.

S7E19

Gene's family shown in "Chili Cook Off".

However, his family is shown again in "Chili Cook Off" when Benson sneaks into his office, and his wife seems to have changed color. This is most likely an animation error.

The Great Prank War (Regular Show Game)[]

Gene Goes Mwahahahah!

Gene from The Great Prank War.

Genesoggy

Gene shown in The Great Prank War, helpless and soggy on the floor.

In the Cartoon Network game, The Great Prank War, Gene serves as the main antagonist of the game. Based off the episode "Prankless", Gene uses a time machine to rewind time and stop Muscle Man from winning the prank war. He uses a force of East Pines park rangers and robots to win the prank war. In the end, he loses to Muscle Man, who drops a huge red water balloon on him and takes away the time machine. This leaves Gene helpless and soggy on the floor.
